Moving Checklist

What To Do When You Move

Six to eight weeks before moving:

1.    Call Cajun Corner Movers for an estimate and to schedule the move.

2.    Arrange a visual inspection by Cajun Corner Movers to determine what will be moved.

3.    Decide who will do the packing. You can do it or we will do it for you.

4.    Keep the numbers provided by Cajun Corner Movers handy in case of questions.   

5.    Remember - any items added later will increase shipment costs.

Four to six weeks before moving:

1.    Submit a change of address to your post office. or do it online at the United States Postal Service web site.

2.    Send a change of address using these checklists:

3.    Use up supplies of frozen or canned foods and other household items.

4.    Clean out your closets, cabinets and the garage. Donate unwanted items - don't forget to get a tax receipt.

5.    Have a garage sale.

Two to four weeks before moving:

1.    Check with Cajun Corner Movers concerning any changes in your move.

2.    Make travel plans, including hotel or airline reservations, if needed.

3.    If you're driving cars, have them fully serviced.

2.    Have an open house or farewell parties.  Give away note cards with your new address.

3.    Set a date for turning off utilities -- preferably after moving day.

4.    Discard propane tanks from barbecue grills as well as any flammables.

5.    Give away plants or perishable items you do not plan to take.

6.    Take pets to the vet for any required health certificates.

7.    Return library books and other borrowed items.

8.    Collect any dry cleaning or any items stored.

Day before before moving:

1.    Finish any packing you are going to do.

2.    Unplug appliances and electronic items.

3.    Check closets, cabinets, attic and yard for any overlooked items.

4.    Place items together you want packed together, including items you will be personally carrying.

5.    Be on hand for any service representatives who are preparing appliances for moving.

Moving Day:

1.    Check to make sure all items are loaded on the Cajun Corner Movers van.

2.    Load any items you will be personally moving.

3.    Check with Cajun Corner Movers to make double check the address of your destination.

4.    Be sure  Cajun Corner Movers has a phone number to reach you for deliver.

5.    Make any last-minute phone calls.

6.    Shut off water, furnace and lights.

7.    Lock all windows and doors.

8.    Collect and surrender all house keys, if necessary.

9.    Check one last time for any overlooked items.

Delivery Day:

1.    Be on hand to meet the van or have a representative present who can accept delivery and pay charges.

2.    Check items as they are unloaded.

3.    Be available to advise  Cajun Corner Movers where to place each item of furniture.

4.    Keep all moving documents in a safe place. in case of verification of expenses for income tax.

Your New Home:

1.    Locate local businesses such as grocery stores, gas stations, convenience stores and hardware stores.

2.    Locate the post office, hospital, police and fire stations.

3.    Check for trash day(s) with your local government agency.

4.    Get information on schools, libraries, emergency services or community activities.

5.    Register to vote, if necessary, inyour new area.
